Android 4.4 KitKat on Samsung Galaxy Note N7000

First version of Galaxy Note tablets which bring Samsung on top of the tablets lines, Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 is still very popular among Note tablet users. If you’re have the Note N7000, then you may probably looking to update it to latest Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. Many thanks to XDA developers who’ve done terrific work and presented the Android 4.4 KitKat based Custom ROM.

The name of the Custom ROM is Asylum Omni, it based on official OminROM 4.4 KitKat ROM. It is lighter and faster then the original source. This ROM is modded with completely dark user interface, which makes is a beautiful looking ROM. Apart from performance and design, to save your lots of internal memory and ROM, lots of unused apps has been removed from it. In order to flash or install this ROM on your tab, you must follow the exact installation guide and don’t skip or avoid any steps listed here. Even it based on official ROM, still there may be some bugs (not mentioned or found yet). The developers claim that, this ROM have only those bugs which are on official OmniROM 4.4.2 ROM.

Before proceeding to any further to installation, read all the pre-requisites listed below very carefully and make sure that your device is compatible for this update from all aspects.

Pre-requisites

This OminROM 4.4 based custom ROM is only made for Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 model and meant nothing for any other device. Don’t try it on any version or model of Galaxy Note series.

For future aspects, it is always to better make backup of current ROM. If any thing goes wrong after installing this ROM then you switch back to old ROM at any time using that backup. To make a backup of current ROM, you need to reboot to recovery mode(look into the installation guide), then look for “backup and restore” options then under them you’ll find option to backup the ROM.

Most important: – In order to install this ROM without any issues and bugs, you need a latest recovery installed on your device. Currently, ClockWorkMod 6.0.4.3 is latest for the Note N7000. The complete download and installation procedure for ClockWorkMod 6.0.4.3 is given in this guide.

Make sure to save your all stuff and data stored under the phone’s memory to safe place. Everything stored under the phone’s internal memory will be wiped out.

Enable USB debugging, go “menu -> settings -> developer options”, then check the USB debugging box to enable it. It enable your phone to connect to PC through USB cable, so you can transfer files to phone.

Charge your phone to good Extent, make sure your phone have at least 50% charging before you proceed to installation process.

How to install Latest CWM 6.0.4.3 on Galaxy Note N7000

  1. Firstly download CWM  6.0.4.3 zip file here. (recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.3-n7000.zip) and copy it to SD card of your device.
  2. Now turn off the device and wait for 5-7 seconds.
  3. Now press and hold Volume Up + Home + Power buttons at the same time until you Samsung Logo appears on screen. Now release the buttons and you’ll entering to recovery mode.
  4. Now if you’re on stock recovery then select “apply update from sdcard” and then “choose zip from SD card”. Find and locate the downloaded “recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.3-n7000.zip” file from sd card and select “Yes” on next screen to confirm the selection.
  5. So, after you flash the new recovery zip file, you’ll be at new new recovery mode. So you’ve done with installating latest recovery image on your Galaxy Note N7000. Now proceed to ROM installation guide.

How to install Android 4.4 KitKat on Galaxy Note N7000

  1. Download all the files listed in Downloads section and put them to SD card of your device. Don’t put them under any folder or directory, just copy them to root of SD card.
  2. Turn off the device and wait for 5-7 seconds after it.
  3. Now enter into the recovery mode by pressing and holding Volume Up + Home + Power buttons at the same time until you Samsung Logo appears on screen. You’ll be at the new recovery mode, as you’ve installed the latest recovery in early steps.
  4. Now in order to perform a clean and bugs free installation, perform the following operation using recovery options (all are compulsory and don’t skip any of them)
    1. Select “Wipe data/Factory reset”, then select “Yes” on the next screen to confirm it.
    2. Select “wipe cache partition“, then select “Yes” on next screen to confirm your selection.
    3. Go back main menu of recovery and then go to “Mounts and Storage“, mount the following: mount system, mount cache and mount data.
    4. Go back main menu of recovery and then go to “Mounts and Storage“-> Format System and select “Yes” on the next screen to confirm.
    5. Go back main menu of recovery, again, and go to “Advanced“-> “Wipe Dalvik Cache” and select Yes from the next screen to confirm it.
  5. Now, its time to flash the kernel file. From recovery options, select “install zip from sd card” then “Choose zip from sdcard”. Browse and locate the downloaded “Kernel Zip file” and select “Yes” on next screen to confirm the selection.
  6. Now “reboot” the recovery.
  7. Now get back to recovery options, select “install zip from sd card” then “Choose zip from sdcard”, find and locate the downloaded “ROM Zip file” and then “Yes” to confirm the flashing process.
  8. It will takes some time gets completed, so be patience at that time.
  9. When it completes, similarly flash the “Removed Apps zip” file and SuperUS zip file.
  10. Select “Wipe data/Factory reset”, then select “Yes” on the next screen to confirm it.
  11. Go back main menu of recovery, again, and go to “Advanced”-> “Wipe Dalvik Cache” and select Yes from the next screen to confirm it.
  12. Select “reboot system now” and all done!
